Lack of instructors delay start of classes at CNMI community college

The start time for a number of classes at the Northern Marianas College has been put back a month because of a lack of instructors.

The College's Dean of Academic Programs and Services, Barbara Merfalen, says about 20 percent of the fall 2013 courses will have a new start date of September the 16th - almost a month later than the scheduled opening yesterday.

The decision to postpone was made so all courses meet a new policy adopted by the Board of Regents earlier this month.

The new policy requires a minimum qualification for instructors but about a third of the staff do not meet this.

Affected faculty members have been told they may be transferred to other parts of the college.
