Temaru to attend Forum to denounce corrupt Tahiti politicians

French Polynesia's pro-independence opposition politician, Oscar Temaru, says he will go to next week's Pacific Islands Forum summit to talk about how corrupt Tahiti's current leaders are.

Mr Temaru, whose party lost this year's election, says Forum leaders need to know that the head of the French Polynesian delegation, Gaston Flosse, is the most corrupt member of the French legislature.

Earlier this year, Mr Flosse was given two lengthy jail sentences for corruption, but none of the convictions is final as his lawyers have lodged appeals in both Papeete and Paris.

Mr Temaru says while the Forum discusses good governance, its members need to know that three of French Polynesia's ministers have been in jail.

"I know in the Forum meeting all the time we talk about these problems of corruption, embezzlement and bribery and all that. And so the leaders of the Pacific and the people of the Pacific should know who is the president of the current government and the members of this government."

Oscar Temaru says he will travel to Majuro via Hawaii while Gaston Flosse will reportedly be flying on a New Zealand government plane from Auckland.
