Samoa have announced a team of 36 athletes will attend the Pacific Mini Games in Wallis and Futuna, which begins next week.
The Polynesian country will contest six of the eight sports on offer at the Games, with team from volleyball and canoeing opting not to participate.
The Chef de Mission for Team Samoa, Fa'afouina Milford, says the canoeing team had originally planned to take part in the Va'a competition but pulled out about six weeks ago.
"They just inform us that they're not participating which is for their own reasons - not clear to us - but I know that they have another competition coming up because next week [is] the start of our Teuila festival here in Samoa, so we see they are concentrating on more of their competition in their own sport so they preferred to stay home and run their own instead of participating in Wallis."
Fa'afouina Milford says like most countries competing over the next fortnight, they plan to use the Games as a way to develop some of their athletes for events such as the Commonwealth Games and Pacific Games.
