PFF condemns Fiji leader's action against Fiji TV

The Pacific Freedom Forum has condemned the forced resignation of a Fiji TV sports commentator, Satish Narain.

The media monitoring group says it has received reliable information that this followed an ultimatum by phone from Fiji's regime leader, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, to Fiji TV's management.

It says the regime leader told Fiji TV to choose between keeping Mr Narain on staff, or losing its broadcast licence.

Last month, Fiji TV was forced to apologise for an on-air comment by Mr Narain about a sports administrator, who is the regime leader's daughter.

The Pacific Freedom Forum says Commodore Bainimarama's action is a clear abuse of power.
