Definition of child still unclear for Fiji's political parties

The Registrar of Political parties in Fiji has declined to define the meaning of a child under the country's political parties decree.

Three parties have until June the 7th to declare their members' assets and liabilities, as well as those of their spouses and children to the Registrar of Political parties.

The executives of the National Federation and Sodelpa parties say the conditions are difficult to interpret and the decree makes no attempt to define a child.

The NFP says a child should be defined as a minor in the care of a party member.

The Registrar, Mohammed Saneem, has declined to clarify how he will interpret the term child.

The elections office says if parties have any concerns about the decree, they can submit their questions to the registrar of political parties in writing for clarification.
