Hutt Valley Rotary to ship ambulance to Solomon Islands

4:38 am on 15 May 2013

A former Wellington Free Ambulance vehicle, which is destined for Solomon Islands, has been officially handed over to Hutt Valley Rotary.

Rotary, which purchased the ambulance, is having it shipped to the Solomons by the Defence Force.

Wellington Free Ambulance's chief executive, Diana Crossan, says while the 1990 Chevrolet has 320 thousand kilometres on the clock it is capable of providing service in the Solomons

She says the ambulance is all ready to go with the Solomons' flag painted on it.

"We have included stretchers and first aid equipment and oxygen masks and supply and wet weather gear. Wellington Free Ambulance has changed its uniforms recently so we have been able to supply some uniforms as well. And we put together a whole list of things that will work for it and we are also sending a couple of staff to help them train how to use it."
