Nauru's Parliament fails to get numbers

5:18 am on 29 April 2013

The Nauru Parliament will again meet tomorrow after a brief sitting on Friday failed to get the numbers required to proceed to the business of the day.

The Speaker Godfrey Thoma adjourned the House after nine MPs had failed to attend the sitting leaving no quorum.

In a statement he said it was unfortunate, that after so many weeks of uncertainty and legal disputes over the proposed dissolution of Parliament, that the game-playing still continues and that 9 out of 18 members are prepared to completely disregard the supreme law of Nauru, the Constitution

Parliament has not held a regular meeting since early February when the government lost its majority after two cabinet ministers resigned.
