10:44 am on 8 April 2013

The Marshall Islands says the theme for this years Pacific Islands Forum summit will be to harness the Pacific's resources to combat climate change.

The Marshalls is hosting the event in the first week of September.

Our correspondent in Majuro, Giff Johnson, says the Forum will try to push members and donor partners to work more closely on climate change issues.

"The idea behind it of having a very heavy focus on action plans and using the forum as a jumping off point for the upcoming regional climate change meeting which is in Samoa later in the year."

Giff Johnson says up to 400 delegates are expected for the event and the Government is working to increase capacity at the one hotel resort, while the private sector is building apartments for delegates to rent.
