Vanuatu's new Prime Minister says his government will seek to interact more closely with the people, with the cabinet to tour the provinces in a bid to better understand grassroots needs.
Moana Carcasses Kalosil says that government has become too remote from the people and consequently government policy has not addressed the most important needs of communities.
He says that starting this month, for the first time, each of Vanuatu's six provinces will have a turn at hosting the Council of Ministers and various department heads.
"So we're going to bring the government to the province. And this is where we can interact with the people, the grassroots, to understand what are their problems and their issues so that we can address it. And we're going to bring people from the private sector too to come with us. There will be interaction with the Chiefs, with youth, with the women, to understand better what are the difficulties faced by this province, so that we can put policy to address the issue."
