The Fiji regime has promised to reveal its leaders' salaries and assets in three months' time.

The Fiji Times reports the regime hopes to bring in new rules around the conduct of public office holders in that time frame.

Sally Round has more;

"At a public meeting in Suva, Fiji's Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, outlined the role of a proposed Transparency and Accountability Commission which would enforce the code of conduct."

The paper reports Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said people would know how much money and property he and his family have.

He said the information would be updated every six months.

Secrecy surrounding regime leaders' taxpayer-funded salaries has prompted repeated calls by political parties and unions for accountability.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum says the Transparency and Accountability Commission would be independent and protect whistle blowers.

The regime's draft constitution proposes a three person commission appointed by the President in consultation with the Prime Minister and the Chief Justice.
