Philippines and Marshall Islands consider closer links

The Marshall islands President, Christopher Loeak, has described workers from the Philippines as the builders of the Marshall Islands during a visit by Filipino officials to the country.

The Manila Bulletin reports the two countries discussed the possibility of co-operation between the Philippines and the Marshall Islands on fisheries.

They also discussed setting a bilateral mechanism to strengthen engagement between the Philippines and the Marshall islands, as well as the Federated States of Micronesia and Palau.

According to the Phillipines Department of Foreign Affairs, there are about 600 Filipinos currently in the Marshall Islands.
