American Samoa government workers face pay rollbacks

11:17 am on 20 February 2013

American Samoa Government employees have had their paychecks reduced due to a rollback in pay, promotions and reclassifications by the Department of Human Resources.

The change is in response to a memo from the Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga which rescinds all new hires, re-classifications and promotions made in the last six months but does not include the fiscal year 2013 and previous budget.

The rollback is part of the new administration's plans to control government costs.

All government departments and agencies have been informed of the rollback process and the names of affected employees.

At last week's cabinet meeting, Governor Lolo said he asked the directors of Human Resources and Budget and the treasurer to work on the rollbacks as they violate the law.
