The Fiji Under 20 side step up their preparations for June's Junior World Championship on Wednesday afternoon with a match against the New Caledonia national team.

Assistant coach Bill Gadolo says the match is a chance for locally based players to stake a claim in the final squad.

"We've got a big squad now - 41 players - who are based here locally and then we have some players, who are playing professionally overseas who have shown interest. So, for us, now will be a good opportunity to suss out the players who are playing locally and those that can be able to take the challenge to be picked in the 28."

Bill Gadolo says the overseas-based players will also have to prove themselves to local selectors at some point before the final squad is named.

The Under 20s will player further matches against senior provincial teams in Fiji in the lead-up to June.
