Prospective new American health chief wants changes

7:34 pm on 7 February 2013

The government's nominee for director of American Samoa's Department of Health claims previous directors have long ignored the needs to improve community health care services.

And Motusa Tuilama Nua says, if fully confirmed by the Legislature, he promises changes.

Mr Nua has been confirmed by the Senate and goes before the House tomorrow for his final confirmation hearing and vote.

He told the Senate the department must improve, among other things, home visits.

Mr Nua says this would take some of the burden off the LBJ.

He wants to see an improved service that includes more doctors and nurses in health clinics.
