The Papua New Guinea government says it will soon set up an anti-corruption commission.
The Prime Minister Peter O'Neill told busines leaders last week that the body would target political corruption.
The National newspaper says Mr O'Neill told the Chamber of Commerce and Industry they will focus on the theft and abuse of public money.
He says the government is taking its time drafting the legislation because it wants to get it right, but is able to draw on the experience of other governments, notably in Australia and New Zealand, in setting up similar authorities.
Mr O'Neill says as well as pursuing those who take bribes, the authority will chase those who pay them.
He says he wants the government to get on top of this cancer that is eating away at the heart of the nation.
