Sport: Samoa hoping to rekindle form of old

11:38 am on 31 January 2013

Samoa is hoping to turn back the clock at the Wellington Sevens this weekend.

The Pacific country won the second tournament in the current world series in Dubai but finished bottom in their group at Port Elizabeth and are fifth in the overall standings.

In an effort to return to winning ways, head coach Faamaoni Lalomilo has turned to one of Samoa's all-time sevens greats.

"Lolo Lui's in that team that won in 2007 and I think he's one of the experienced players in our team. We bring him back and he adds a lot to the team this week and the tournament but our preparation went well. Of course we know our weakness in Port Elizabeth but we work well in everything we want to prepare for this weekend and also we had Samoa beaten by the cyclone in the Christmas Day so we want a good result this weekend for the sake of our people."

Samoa will meet South Africa, Wales and Canada on day one of the Wellington tournament.
