Fiji assumes chairmanship of G77 plus China UN group

Fiji's interim prime minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, has assumed the chairmanship of the G77 plus China from Algeria, which held the position last year.

Commodore Bainimarama used his address in New York to affirm Fiji's promotion of the interests, principles and objectives of the G77.

He says their pursuits depends on the ability to mobilise members in various forums and to maintain the most unified positions possible whenever common development goals are at stake.

Commodore Bainimarama has pledged that Fiji will provide all necessary resources at various levels to accomplish this goal.
