Solomon Islands teachers are planning to stage a nation-wide strike later this month.
The teachers are members of the Solomon Islands National Teachers Association, SINTA.
SINTA President Samson Faisi says the government has been ignoring his association's claims for a housing allowance for teachers who teach in urban schools and the re-levelling of teachers' salaries.
Mr Faisi also says the government has yet to remove officers from the Honiara City Council who had misused money meant to pay teachers' travelling expenses between Honiara and their home villages.
He told Solomon Star newspaper the claims are not new and the government is aware of them but it just has not acted on them.
Mr Faisi says he is calling his national executive members to attend a meeting this Thursday to discuss the planned strike.
