The Solomon Islands National Disaster Management Office is sending a water purification unit to the capital of the island hardest hit by Cyclone Freda so the hospital can remain open.
A spokesperson, Sipuru Rove, says yesterday's aerial assessment found widespread damage from flooding to food gardens and cash crops from the storm which passed over Makira earlier this week.
He says pipes and fittings to repair the water system in Kirakira will be sent with relief supplies tomorrow but the purification unit leaves today.
"They've got no water supply and there are threats that the Kirakira Hospital might be closed down if water was not restored as early as possible."
Sipuru Rove says aerial assessments of cyclone damage to the provinces of Rennell and Bellona and Malaita are yet to be completed.
He says Guadalcanal has been assessed from the air but the details have not been circulated yet.
