The Fiji military says it was shocked to find some people have filed false applications to gain assistance following Cyclone Evan.
Lieutenant-Colonel Amani Suliano says a team that was sent to verify appeals for help, found that some farms and houses barely sustained any damage despite their owners filing claims.
Mr Suliano has told the Fiji Sun newspaper, the military has learned from cyclone rehabilitation efforts that there needs to be thorough verification to determine whether applications for help are accurate.
He says more than 300 more military personnel have been deployed to the Western Division, with 150 people charged with cleaning and restoring suburbs and 220 in the assessment and verification team.
Mr Suliano says the assessment and verification team is made up of plumbers, electricians and carpenters.
