The police in the Northern Mariana Islands says cases of burglary, arson, robbery and theft have reached epidemic proportions.

In response, the Department of Public Safety has reactivated the Thief Apprehension Select Coalition to tackle a large volume of unsolved cases.

The acting Police commissioner Ambrosio Ogumoro says from January the 1st to September the 30th this year, more than one-thousand incidents of burglary, robbery, theft and arson were reported to the police.

He says he has recently assigned additional detectives to combat the crimes by beefing up the Criminal Investigation Bureau with Thief Apprehension Select Coalition operatives.
