Sport: Kurukuru planning Japan tour

The Solomon Islands futsal team is hoping to capitalise on its recent success with a tour of Japan in the new year.

The Kurukuru made history at last months World Cup in Thailand, beating Guatemala in pool play for their first ever win at the elite event.

Their build-up to that tournament was limited, with a game in Australia in October ending an almost 18-month stretch without an international game.

But head coach Dickson Kadau says they have some positive leads for 2013.

"We are planning with a businessman from Japan here in Solomon Islands to get us one international tour in Japan to have friendly games next year before the next Oceania Futsal Championship and the next qualifying."

Dickson Kadau says they're also in the process of establishing a link with Thailand, which would involve further travel and international matches.
