Officials in Samoa say that there are now 12 people missing as a result of Cyclone Evan.
The confirmed death toll rose to five yesterday after the discovery of a male body at Vaiala.
The Government has put out its daily assessment statement, as Don Wiseman reports:
"It says electricity has been restored to most of Apia and should be fully restored across the country by Friday. The urban water supply has been re-connected for many villages but staff are still working on problems at Malololelei, Alaoa, Vaivase Uta and Fagalii Uta. The Disaster Management Office has opened two distribution outlets - one at Samoa College for eastern Apia and another at Faleata Gym One for the western Apia suburbs. Just over 5,000 people are in 38 shelters, with the Disaster Office reporting that most people are rebuilding their homes in the daytime and returning to the shelters at nightfall. The Office is continuing to encourage displaced persons living with family or who are billeted elsewhere to call 997 and register family members for assistance. The Samoa Government says that despite the extent of the damage to the telecoms network, Bluesky Samoa reports that 50% of the landline network and about 60 percent of mobile network on Upolu is now restored."
