Fiji PM in PNG today for ACP talks

7:23 am on 20 November 2012

Fiji's interim Prime Minister is due in Papua New Guinea today for talks over the bid to have Fiji fully included in African, Caribbean and Pacific Group meetings.

Fiji Village reports Commodore Frank Bainimarama has been invited by PNG's Prime Minister Peter O'Neill.

The meeting comes ahead of Wednesday's Pacific ACP Leaders meeting in Port Moresby, with a decision expected on Fiji's request to be part of the Pacific ACP group.

The Pacific ACP countries have trade and development agreements with the European Union, but Fiji has not participated at the highest level meetings since its suspension from the Pacific Islands Forum in 2009.

At the Forum leaders meeting in August, PACP leaders couldn't agree on allowing Fiji back to their meeting.
