Samoa solar project hits financial snag

A company which launched a multi-million dollar solar project in Samoa is revising plans after promised financing from investors did not come through.

The chair of Solar Samoa Limited, Oloipola Terrence Betham, has told the Samoa Observer the original financial support anticipated to kick-start the project has not arrived.

He wouldn't say how much money was involved, where it was to come from or who was behind it.

The project was launched in July this year on land leased from Samoa Airport Authority at Faleolo.

It aimed to provide cheaper electricity and employment opportunities for nearby villagers.
