Amputation prevents Fiji defendant from attending court

1:49 pm on 23 October 2012

Fiji police say they will not comment on the circumstances which led to a recaptured prisoner, Epeli Qaraniqio, having a leg amputated.

According to Fijivillage, police will only comment once they see the medical report.

Qaraniqio is one of those charged with robberies after their prison break-out last month.

The prosecution says he could not attend court because of the amputation.

It has asked for the case to be adjourned by two weeks.
