The Fiji Sugar Corporation is considering taking over the transportation system of sugar cane and some of the harvesting next season.
According to the Fiji Times, the Sugar Corporation is concerned about disruptions to sugar cane supply at the Lautoka and Rarawai mills.
The Corporation's executive chairman, Abdul Khan, told the newspaper it is unfortunate supply issues are continuing late into the season.
Mr Khan says if the Sugar Corporation took over the transportation side of things, it can hopefully improve the co-ordination of supply from farmers at various mills.
He says the industry is also finding it hard to entice cane cutters to do their jobs and the Corporation is looking at increasing mechanical harvesting.
