Vanuatu had the highest percentage increase in New Zealand visitors in the South Pacific region in August.

Statistics show Vanuatu had 15 percent more New Zealand visitor numbers than in the same month last year, followed by the Cook Islands with an eight percent increase.

The Vanuatu Tourism Office's spokesperson, Jackie Carson, says they have launched six more advertising campaigns this year than last.

"it really is due to the fact we've been spending a bit more money, which is usually the way it works, on promoting the country in New Zealand to New Zealand tourists. And obviously once people go there they're really enjoying it, so it's a good feeling once they've been there. They are coming back and obviously telling other people aswel and that's all helping us."

Jackie Carson says they have also included islands like Tanna and Santo in the campaigns, not just Port Vila.
