Performance of Bong as Vanuatu Police chief won't be reviewed

It's understood that because the former Commissioner of the Vanuatu police force, Joshua Bong, has been sacked, there is no need for the police service commission to review his performance.

Joshua Bong was fired on Friday by Vanuatu's President, Iolou Johnson Abbil, who then re-appointed Arthur Caulton as the Acting Commissioner of Police.

Mr Bong's termination letter was handed over to him by the newly appointed chairman of the Police Service Commission, Herve Hopkins.

The police service commission's review of Mr Bong was scheduled to take place on Monday.

However, our Vanuatu correspondent, Hilaire Bule, says it's no longer expected to take place.

"He is no longer the commissioner so there is no use to review his performance. The plan was initiated by the vice chairman of the police service commission, before last week, Mr Robert Kaire, but as you know Mr Kaire was also terminated from the position of vice chairman of the police service commission."
