Sport: Tri Series a perfect fit for Samoan weightlifters

11:06 am on 3 October 2012

Some of Samoa's top weightlifters fly out for New Zealand on Wednesday to take part in a tri-series competition in Auckland.

It's the first time Samoa is joining the competition, which also includes Australia and New Zealand and coach Jerry Wallwork says they hope to make it an annual event, and possibly host it next year.

Jerry Wallwork says with a jam-packed 2013 schedule, which includes the next Commonwealth and Oceania Championships, Pacific Mini Games, and Senior and Junior World Championships, this event has come at the right time.

"The hard work work needs to be done from now and next year. We're happy to go to New Zealand too-it's close to us and we've got kids and many families here -and at the same time we're going to get some good competition. It's a long break from now until next year so we need this tournament in between."
