Utility costs up in American Samoa

3:50 pm on 1 October 2012

Residents in American Samoa begin paying higher rates for water, waste water and garbage collection from tomorrow.

This despite a House resolution asking the American Samoa Power Authority not to implement a rake hike at this time.

This will be the third incremental rate hike for the utility in two years.

The solid waste or trash collection fee has the biggest increase under the incremental rate plan, but residents and businesses will also pay more for water used and the groundwater protection fee goes up.
