One of China's highest ranking politicians arrives in Fiji this week.

The chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Wu Banguo heads a delegation also visiting Iran, Myanmar and Sri Lanka.

Last week Mr Wu, who is described as China's top legislator, signed economic, trade and finance agreements with Myanmar's president.

In Fiji Mr Wu will meet Fiji's President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau and the interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama.

Fiji's interim government says the visit symbolizes the growing relations between Fiji and China since diplomatic relations were forged in 1975.

It says the visit and other high level exchanges are expected to result in closer cooperation and provide a platform for more investment and trade.
