The safety and well being of Prince Harry are among the responsibilities of Tonga's fifth contingent of soldiers which leaves for Afghanistan this week.

The Prince has been assigned to take up a post as one of the British pilots at Camp Bastion in Helmand Province, where Tongan troops will be based.

Radio Tonga says the information was revealed by the contingent leader - Captain Toni Fonokalafi.

Captain Fonokalafi says his troops will continue their usual tasks at Camp Bastion, as well as protecting Prince Harry.

The contingent leaves this Friday for the United Kingdom for 7 weeks of training before their dispatch to the Afghanistan to replace the 4th contingent.

They are expected to complete their mission in mid-2013.
