American Samoan bus driver charged after pedestrian killed

In American Samoa, a bus driver is facing homicide charges after his bus hit and killed a retired police commander.

Reino Esera was driving the bus that hit 72 year-old Malele Notise Forsythe as he was crossing the street in Nu'uuli village last Saturday morning.

Mr Esera has been charged with homicide by vehicle and faces a number of minor charges, and is on bail of 15,000 US dollars.

He faces up to five years jail if convicted of vehicular homicide, and up to six months for each traffic violation.
