Sport: Chance of revenge for PNG cricketers

10:20 am on 21 August 2012

Papua New Guinea will find out just how far they've come when they take on Zimbabwe at the Under 19 Cricket World Cup on Tuesday.

The Garamuts have lost all four of their matches at the tournament so far, including a heavy opening day loss to Zimbabwe in Townsville.

Coach Peter Anderson says their opponents have been a big jump in quality from what they are used to.

"We've got some very very good cricketers - cricket PNG can be very proud. I know they're a long way away and we all ride on success as players and coaches and all that and when you're not winning it's hard."

It just really emphasises again we've got to play more cricket -the more we play against these teams, and I spoke to some Indian guys and they said they've been very impressed with Pakistan, they're very impressed with our talent. These guys are playing continued cricket at this standard, we're not, it's very simple.

The highest Papua New Guinea can now finish at the tournament is 13th.
