A 38 million US dollar tuna processing plant due for completion in Papua New Guinea may face power supply problems.
The Post Courier reports the Papua New Guinea Power Chief Executive Tony Koiri saying they are making an effort to meet the demand with a new hydro electric dam coming online next year.
The Project Manager Cristito Andrade says the plant will use three mega watts of power to process 380 tonnes of fish a day.
The plant is being constructed in Lae by a consortium of companies from Papua New Guinea, Thailand and the Philippines.
Mr Andrade says it will be the second largest of its type in the world and and employ up to 6,000 people.
Its products will be mainly exported to the European market, with some sales within Papua New Guinea.
