Food security and the need to ensure crops can be available during all seasons have been a focus for farmers attending the Agriculture Show in Fiji.
The show is being held in Lautoka, the first time it's been held in the Western Division, with the intention to help farmers that have been affected by the two devastating floods this year.
The President of the Fiji India Business Council, Swani Maharaj, says farmers have been able to re-grow crops fairly quickly thanks to the Agriculture Department swiftly supplying farmers with seeds.
"The response of farmers are happy with the government's initiative, that's a positive point but they felt in order to retain food security we need to have such vegetable farms also placed on hilly areas, especially for the rainy season so crops are available throughout the season."
Swani Maharaj says it's a challenge because people like to plant beside river-beds because the soil is richer, and tap water is not needed to water the crops.
