Papua New Guinea's Electoral Commissioner Andrew Trawen has extended the deadline for vote counting in the general election for three regional seats where the process has faced significant delays.
Mr Trawen has advised the Governor-General that counting in National Capital District, Western Highlands and Enga provincial seats will be extended until next Wednesday, August 8th.
An Electoral Commission spokesperson says that counting has had to be suspended on several occasions in various electorates in the three provinces due to disputes over ballot boxes.
He says this has delayed the overall count of votes for who will be provincial Governor.
The Commission says it has resolved the disputes.
Local media has reported Mr Trawen as saying plans for parliament to sit on Friday to elect a Prime Minister can still proceed because the People's National Congress of Peter O'Neill has easily won the most seats.
