Vanuatu in line for UN agency regional office

12:53 pm on 18 July 2012

Vanuatu has offered to host the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation's regional office in Port Vila and the organisation's director general, Kamdeh Yumkella, has agreed to the offer in principle.

This is being reported in Vanuatu as another diplomatic breakthrough for its ambassador to the European Union, Roy Mickey Joy, who made the offer on behalf of the Prime Minister Sato Kilman at the organisation's headquarters in Vienna.

Mr Joy says Mr Yumkella will send a high level mission to Port Vila to meet government officials and assess the infrastructure in September.
