CCF understood to be facing Fiji court proceedings

One of the group's involved in Fiji's constitution consultations is understood to be facing court proceedings over its reproduction of a report critical of Fiji's legal system.

The case involving the Citizen's Constitutional Forum was up for mention in a Fiji court yesterday.

Sally Round reports

"Radio New Zealand International understands the case relates to CCF's publication of a controversial report by the Law Society Charity in the CCF newsletter. The report first published earlier this year found Fiji's judiciary and legal system in a dire state and called for action from international law groups. The Director of Public Prosecutions Christopher Pryde slammed it as dishonest and incorrect but invited the author of the report back to Fiji to get what he called a more balanced picture. The Citizens Constitutional Forum is a well established NGO in Fiji at the forefront of civic education over a new constitution."
