United Resources Party in PNG claims South Bougainville Open seat

The United Resources Party has claimed its first seat in the Papua New Guinea general election with the incumbent Stephen Pirika Kamma retaining the seat.

Meanwhile, a former Prime Minister Sir Julius Chan has retained his New Ireland provincial seat.

The result means Sir Julius' People's Progress Party has won all four seats in New Ireland.

In overall counting, the People's National Congress remains the party with the most seats - four confirmed and leading in 19.

The next best party is the Triumph Heritage Empowerment party which has three confirmed seats and leads in 10.

Independents lead in 10.
