Counting in three of the four seats in the autonomous Papua New Guinea province of Bougainville is underway with a former rebel leader, Ismael Toroama, leading in the regional seat.
The New Dawn website reports that early in the count Mr Toroama has a lead of 500 votes over the second placed Simon Pentanu.
In Central Bougainville, a former cabinet minister Sam Akoitai leads the incumbent Jimmy Mirintoro by 600 votes.
And in South Bougainville the sitting member Steven Pirika Kamma has a significant lead, nearly 880 votes, over broadcaster Timothy Masiu.
Voting is still proceeding in the outer islands of the north Bougainville seat.
