Sport: American Samoa finish fifth at U19 World Champs

American Samoa enhanced its global standing after a credible fifth-placed finish at the Under 19 American Football World Championship after beating France 27-14.

Quarterback Ben Langford had a hand in three touchdowns to earn team MVP honors, with running back Faafouina Sitagata running for 80 yards and the other touchdown.

After an opening loss to the United States, the eighth-ranked territory beat fourth ranked Panama and sixth ranked France in their first appearance at the tournament.

Meanwhile the US were upset 23-17 by Canada in the gold medal match.
