Fiji police continues to monitor political party meetings

1:51 pm on 27 June 2012

Fiji police have stressed that the conditions set out for political party meeting permits will not be reviewed.

The leader of the Fiji Labour Party, Mahendra Chaudhry, has complained about police attending political party meetings.

But the police director of operations, Rusiate Tudravu, says police will remain during the meetings, to ensure the party adheres to the agenda provided in the permit application.

Fijivillage reports him as saying no intimidating language or threats must be uttered in the meetings.

Rusiate Tudravu says the Fiji Labour Party should visit the police if it wants to raise any concerns.
