A Pacific Games Council delegation visited Tonga last week to assess the country's bid to host the 2019 tournament.

PGC President Vidhya Lakhan and Executive Director Andrew Minogue met with Tongan bid officials, as well as the Prime Minister, Lord Tu'ivakano, and the Ministers of Sport and Education.

The Secretary General of the Tongan Olympic Committee, Takitoa Taumoepeau, says the visit was very positive although it did highlight areas that need to be worked on ahead of the next Progress Report, which is due in September.

Tonga is competing with French Polynesia for the right to host the 2019 Games, with the winning bid to be decided at the Pacific Games Council's General Assembly in Wallis & Futuna in October.
