Up to 70 senior citizens working at the American Samoa Territorial Administration on Aging Office have been told that their employment will be terminated next week.

The elderly mothers and fathers have been working under the Office's employment programme for senior citizens.

They work four hours a day, mostly making handicrafts.

Senior citizens told KHJ News they were told that the federal grantor has ordered that all those who have reached 48 months of employment , which is the limit for the programme, have to be released.

For many, the programme was their only source of income.
