The Fiji regime leader, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, says the 1997 constitution has been abrogated and there is no need to talk about it.
Commodore Bainimarama has told the Fiji Sun that those who still want the 1997 constitution are in the wrong country.
He questioned why some political parties still say that it is still alive.
As work on a new constitution is about to start in the lead-up to elections promised for 2014, it has been pointed out that the constitution can only be changed by parliament.
It was abolished a first time during the 2000 coup but the court reinstated it a year later.
The current Fiji regime abolished the constitution in 2009 after the appeal court ruled that the post-coup interim government was illegal.
Commodore Bainimarama says the nation needs to urgently remove all unjustifiable systems, policies and programmes which are based on racial discrimination or narrow communal considerations.
