Pacific leaders back public private partnerships

Leaders from across the Pacific say stronger public private partnerships will lead to greater local economic growth.

Local government and business leaders from around the world gathered in Nadi in Fiji last week for the United Nations Development Programme-led Roundtable for Promoting Public Private Partnerships for Local Economic Development.

The Manager of Business development at the Vanuatu Chamber of Commerce, Alick Berry says there is a lack of consultation at all government levels and believes more attention should be given to private sector initiatives.

"Most of the people in the private sector are business people and they sort of have initiatives, they sort of have business ideas that can sort of help the government in terms of revenue collection, in terms of strengthening the business licence application procedures, those kinds of things."

Alick Berry says public private partnerships can be strengthened if more business forums are held.
