Papua New Guinea's parliament has convened again to vote in a new prime minister following the surprise declaration by the acting speaker that the position is vacant.
Francis Marus yesterday acknowledged last week's Supreme Court ruling upholding an earlier judgement that Sir Michael Somare was illegally removed as the country's prime minister last August.
But Mr Marus then immediately disqualified Sir Michael as a member of parliament for missing three consecutive sessions since January.
However, Sir Michael refuses to recognise any decision made under the O'Neill government and still claims to be the country's rightful leader.
The coalition backing Peter O'Neill has agreed to nominate him for the position and he's expected to have the numbers to get a quorum in today's session.
