A Vanuatu fisherman, Solomon Aru, is facing charges of sexual assault and disturbing the peace in American Samoa.
A woman complained to police that she woke last Sunday morning to find Mr Aru lying on top of her.
Police say the Vanuatu fisherman, who denies the incident and also earlier harassing the woman, is being held with bail set at 50 thousand US dollars.
